"Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati (DJUG) occupies the 6th position among the 17 Romanian higher education institutions included this year in the Times Higher Education's Impact Rankings 2023. Recently published, the top ranks universities according to the extent to which they meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals and their impact on society (SDG).

The Romanian universities included in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking – 2023, published on June 1 are:
  • University of Bucharest - between 201-300 place
  • Babeş-Bolyai University - 401-600
  • ASE Bucharest - 401-600
  • Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu - 401-600
  • Al. I. Cuza University of Iasi - 801-1000
  • “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati - 1000+
The criteria according to which higher education institutions are classified in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The top highlights the impact of universities on society, based on their success in achieving objectives such as: Quality Education, Good Health and Wellbeing, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Reduced Inequalities, Industry Innovation and Infrastructure, Partnership for the Goals or Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

DJUGparticipated in 16 Objectives, achieving the best score among the Romanian universities participating in Objectives Zero Hunger and Life on Land and was among the first positions at Affordable and Clean Energy, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. For the Responsible Consumption and Production Objectives (position 401-600) and Life below Water (position 301-400) DJUG was the only Romanian university participating.

On the 1000+ places, after DJUG, in the top there are: "George Emil Palade" University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu Mureș, "Grigore T. Popa" University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iasi, "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism, University of Oradea, Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Polytechnic University of Timisoara, "Stefan cel Mare" University of Suceava, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca,  Transylvania University of Brasov, USAMV Cluj-Napoca, West University of Timisoara.
