Giusi Scarlata and Marco Puglisi are graduates from Extension of Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Enna, Italy, of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati and now they are medical staff in the emergency unit of the Umberto I Hospital in Enna, in the first line in the fight against the SARS-Cov-2 virus. Employed as general medical assistants, they have demonstrated that they are reliable medical staff and that at “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati the quality theoretical training is completed with the practice activity.

“We are working since March 6th,2020, in the Umberto I Hospital in Enna. First of all, we have provided assistance in the semi-intensive care and first aid departments, today we are indispensable operators for the vaccination campaign that is in full swing in Italy,” Giusi Scarlata explained. Asked how the fight against the SARS-Cov-2 virus was in the first line, Giusi told, in a correct Romanian, that it was hard, but she made it.

"We stayed 12 hours equipped with those overalls, which was not very comfortable. We had many emergencies, both during the day and at night. In the first month we were isolated, my colleague contracted the virus, I did not, with God's help I escaped ". Giusi Scarlata admits that she had a model and a reliable moral help in the hospital: her father who also works in the health system.

Recently, another graduate of the Enna Extension of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy was hired at the hospital in Syracuse, being a proof that general nurses, graduates of the University of Galaţi, with diplomas recognized by the Italian state are sought by specialized employers on the labor market.

"We had good professors, we acquired good theoretical and practical knowledge. The Romanian language was not difficult to learn, we followed the preparatory year, and then we went to Romania every year, to practice in “Sf. Apostol Andrei” Emergency Clinical Hospital and in the “Sf. Ioan” Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children in Galati. There is no difference between what we learned and what students learn from medical schools in Italy, I could say that we are better prepared only by them, because we also have the experience of practice ", said Giusi Scarlata.

"There were two good students, involved, passionate about the profession, with good grades. The student's father was also a nurse, so it is practically a family tradition to get involved in saving lives. The two have stood out since faculty, so it was expected to achieve spectacular results at work. It is extraordinary that they had the courage to work in first line in the fight against Covid 19 and we are glad that they were given the opportunity to perform in the Italian health system", said the professors from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati.

The Extension of Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Enna, Italy, operates with two study programs - Medicine (75 places) and General medical assistance (25 places), all places being with tuition fee.
